Italy Beats Hawaii as the Best Honeymoon Destination

Ask any bride-to-be and she'll quickly tell you that honeymoon dreams come true in Hawaii. This tropical paradise has been king of the hill when it comes to honeymoon destinations for nine straight years. But this year, the king was dethroned. Instead of finding Hawaii as big kahuna, Italy took the lead.

In previous years, Italy ranked third, but in the 11th annual Modern Bride survey for 2007, it surpassed Hawaii, followed by Tahiti, Costa Rica, Mexico and France. The 11th annual survey was conducted through a network of 6,000 luxury travel agents who ranked their 50 favorite honeymoon spots. The results appear in the magazine's August/September issue. But what doesn't appear is the answer to the question "why?"

According to Hawaii's state Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism, the trend has been building over time. The number of honeymoon couples traveling to the Aloha State fell to just over 200,000 as of June this year. That's a 1.2% drop from 2006. Hawaii certainly has beauty and a playground with enough adventure and romance to keep couples busy for weeks. But Italy is beginning to be appreciated for many of its unique features.

Venice

For instance, Venice charms young and old alike with magical waterways stretching throughout the entire city. The gentle trickling of water through the canals is romantic on its own. Add to that a dreamy gondola ride and you've set the mood for the entire trip. Truth be known, Venetians travel by gondola because there are no cars, not because of the romance! You also won't find any motorbikes or motorized scooters. Why no cars? Because there are no roads to drive them on!

What you will find in Venice is gorgeous scenery along with palaces, museums and art collections. Open-air food markets are also plentiful and make for wonderful shopping. Or, of course, you can dine at any number of restaurants where you'll delight in truly authentic northern Italian cuisine.

You won't want to leave without participating in Carnival. Remarkably, the term "carnival" comes from the Latin "farewell meat!" Similar to Fat Tuesday in New Orleans, Carnival began the practice of throwing huge parties in order to use up all the meat, eggs and butter before the fasting of Lent started. To make Carnival unique, Venetians wore masks to disguise themselves. This way they could participate in all types of debauchery without being found out. While Carnival today is much more civil, the enormous levels of fun still run high.

Capri

Another unique destination in Italy is Capri. An island (as is Venice), this region has wooed the world for decades. Countless movies have been made on Capri, emperors have visited and honeymooners have strolled along her hillsides. Part of the allure of this island lies in the aromatic fragrances that overtake you as soon as you arrive.

The scent of ripe natively grown lemons in addition to the intense perfume of indigenous basil, marjoram, oregano, parsley and thyme waft through the air with every breeze. It's something almost everyone is pleasantly surprised by.

One of the most popular attractions is The Blue Grotto (Grotta Azzurra) - a must-see. As daylight enters through an underwater opening located immediately below the entrance to the cave, the light is filtered by the water. The red tones are absorbed, leaving only the blue ones to pass into the cave. The result is an astonishing aura of blues that simply defies words.

Whichever you choose as your top honeymoon spot, you'll find plenty to do and see. Cruising to your destination offers the flexibility to see more of the region for less than you might think. Explore online first and then decide which location will offer more of what you and your spouse-to-be will love.

Asheville: A Luxury Hotel Resort Destination and a Slice of Americana

Asheville has long been known for attracting a wealthy international traveler in search of leisure and luxury accommodations. Since the first days of Biltmore Estate, the Vanderbilt family has entertained here. And, Edwin Grove built the Grove Park Inn in North Asheville, on sales from a popular chill tonic. These early commercial giants also attracted an artistic and business class that brought cultural and economic growth and sophistication to the Western North Carolina region, which was once solely the domain of the Appalachian farmer and drover, or a tuberculosis patient here to recover.

Today, Asheville is known for being a cultural center, a place where blue grass music and other musical genres thrive. Asheville is also one of the centers of the farm to table and organic food movements, as well as green building and sustainable living just to name a few. The progressive, artistic, computer savvy and politically active residents of Asheville are known for their liveliness and expression and their high degree of tolerance for a variety of lifestyles.

Asheville: A Destination for the Sophisticated Traveler
Asheville has historically served as a fashionable resort for those wanting luxury accommodations. This began with the Vanderbilt's construction of Biltmore Estate in the late 1800s and, it continued with the establishment of the Grove Park Inn in 1914, and the opening of Haywood Park Hotel on Battery Park in Asheville.

Yet the sophisticated traveler has even more options in contemporary Asheville. Luxury resorts and condo hotels have opened in and around the Asheville area, offering many nice amenities as well as quality accommodations. These luxury hotel amenities often include spas and concierge services. For instance, the Residences at Biltmore, just outside the gates of Biltmore Estate, pampers and delights guests with travel concierge services. This condo hotel is an all-suite property with full kitchens, whirlpool tubs and other luxury amenities such as large screen televisions and gas fireplaces. Other hotels, slated for construction in and near downtown Asheville, will offer luxury accommodations as well.

Asheville: A Thriving Cultural Center
Asheville has been called Paris of the East, and for good reason. In the 1920s, Asheville was alive with sidewalk caf? bohemian life, artistic and fashion movements. Today, the Appalachian mountain setting makes it the perfect place for artists to coalesce, collaborate, and experiment. The River Arts District, which centers around artist studios in the warehouse district along the French Broad River, is beginning to swarm with excitement and activity.

North Asheville
North Asheville is the home of University of North Carolina Asheville and the Montford Historic District. Montford and North Asheville are filled with mansions, estate homes, and other historic sites dating to the 19th and Early 20th Century. North Asheville is very close to downtown Asheville, making it a popular place to live.

West Asheville
West Asheville, which was once the historic downtown district in the 1920s, is a hub of activity with new stores, restaurants and bars opening each year to add to the thriving inner city life that has developed there. West Asheville has been known as the gay and lesbian district. It is also filled with homes and cottages dating to the 1920s which were once used as vacation cottages and have since been converted to year round living quarters. Downtown West Asheville has some grand homes and mansions that have been rehabbed and given some new polish by the new inhabitants. The eclectic choice of second hand stores, shopping, coffeehouses, and bars makes West Asheville a great destination for the traveler in search of some local color.

South Asheville
South Asheville is where Biltmore Estate is located, and many popular communities thrive right on the perimeter of the estate property. In the shopping and historic district at the foot of the mountain beneath the Estate grounds is Biltmore Village, where workers who built the estate used to live and worship. There are numerous restaurants, entertainment and shopping choices in South Asheville.

East Asheville
East Asheville is the location of the Asheville Mall. There is also an entrance to the Blue Ridge Parkway in East Asheville. Generally known as the shopping district, East Asheville is the place to go for shopping, food and entertainment.

No matter where the traveler to Asheville is headed for food, art, or entertainment, he or she will find remnants of historical Asheville mixed in with the contemporary feel of the town. Whether it's a local farmer's market, or a visit to Shindig on the Green to see the best in Blue Grass downtown, the sophisticated traveler is sure to find a taste of local life here. And, if the traveler looks closely enough, he or she will see that the sophistication that built Asheville still resides here - and always has. This luxury mountain getaway has just been colored by metropolitan lifestyles of the 21st Century.

Malta - Secure And Friendly For 2008

Long gone are the days of easy travel abroad, replaced in today's world with frequent long queues at passport control and baggage checks making air travel in particular a chore more than a joy.

But when the journey is fraught, if the destination is good the inconvenience is soon forgotten, and for sunshine holidays if good beaches and security are high on the tourist agenda, the island of Malta in the Mediterranean could be a good choice.

In a survey of 27 European countries by the World Health Organisation, comparing the rates of assault and murder, the UN body found that Malta was the second safest country, with Ireland the safest. Least safe were Lithuania and Latvia.

The new report comes in addition to one from an American journalist who last year placed Malta as one of the five safest travel destinations in the world, and a new report from the US just a few months ago confirmed Malta as one of the safest vacation spots in the world.

The good news and publicity comes for Malta in a year that has seen her fortunes as a holiday spot turn around from one that had been in decline, to one that is returning to a mainstream vacation destination.

The first three months of 2007 all showed year on year improvements in the number of tourists visiting Malta.

Much of the increase in visitor numbers has come about since the Malta government reluctantly agreed to allow low cost airlines to fly from the UK and Ireland, traditionally Malta's strongest market for holidays.

The decision to allow the low cost flights came after some time of delay by the Maltese authorities, and was too late to stop a further decline in 2006 of visitor numbers.

Ryanair started flights from London's Luton airport in November, and from Dublin three months later. Other countries with low cost airlines have also started to fly to Malta, notably from Germany and Spain.

This year's report bears more official weight than the previous one by a travel writer, as it was compiled by the US State Department.

Commenting on Malta, the report praises the island for the non existence of organised crime, especially surprising perhaps given her proximity to mainland Italy - and closer still to notorious Sicily.

A surprise for many who have driven in Malta is that the report considers the island's roads to be safe. But this is backed up by official EU figures showing Malta has the lowest road related fatalities in the EU.

Last year's report helped to promote Malta's image as a safe destination to potential tourists considering different holiday destinations.

Malta ranked as one of the top five locations for safety in the world, according to American travel writer Laura McKenzie.

In her report Ms McKenzie said of the Mediterranean holiday island 'In Malta there is no such thing as a dark and uninviting alley, while the police force is one of the oldest in the world'. Three reports in two years praising Malta for her safe streets could boost the number of Malta holidays sold for 2008.

Must-See Sights In Turkey - Above and Below Ground

When you talk about sightseeing, most people naturally assume you'll remain above ground. But in Istanbul, Turkey, the underground cities are some of the best-loved sights of all! Room after room, city after city is still being uncovered by archeologists ... as many as 150 currently: most still unexcavated. With expansive structures that reach far down into the earth, these sights are truly fascinating.

Underground Cities

It all started millions of years ago with massive volcanic activity. Three distinct layers were formed in the earth: ash, dust compressed into stone, and a thin layer of lava. Centuries of movement in the earth produced rock formations now referred to as "fairy chimneys" - towering structures that serve as pre-made buildings. Goreme National Park in Cappadocia, Turkey is home to the largest array of fairy chimneys: in excess of 26,000 acres of them!

What were these rock buildings used for? Practically everything! Citizens built homes in the rocks, underground chambers to store grain, shelters from storms and invaders, and safe houses for their livestock and possessions. You'll even find elaborate palaces and large dwellings with enormous staircases and multiple levels. Early Christians used fairy chimneys as a hidden retreat to practice their religion during the early years of persecution.

But underground cities isn't all Istanbul has to offer. You can also enjoy numerous beaches scattered all about the region.

Beaches In Istanbul

Solar Beach is probably the most popular because of all its many offerings. In addition to lounging on the beach, you can also rent jet boats, play beach soccer or volleyball, rent jet skis, kite boards, go carts, banana boats, windsurfing equipment and more. It offers plenty of fun for the whole family. Solar beach is also a common place for music lovers. It hosts plenty of concerts each year featuring well-known artists. Previously performing musicians have included Gloria Gaynor, Norah Jones, Shakira, Avril Lavigne, Smashing Pumpkins and more.

Kamo's Beach Club gives sun worshipers a place to tan and also a great proximity to the downtown district. The resort offers a swimming pool as well as beach access.

Buzada gives a unique beach experience. This island has a beach club that caters to guests with beach access and a swimming pool. Boats shuttle guests to and from the mainland throughout the day.

Turkish Baths

No one should leave Istanbul without first experiencing a Turkish bath. This long-standing tradition involves a process, which is much more involved than what Westerners consider typical bathing. According to Wikipeida.com, "A person taking a Turkish bath first relaxes in a room (known as the warm room) that is heated by a continuous flow of hot, dry air allowing the bather to perspire freely. Bathers may then move to an even hotter room (known as the hot room) before splashing themselves with cold water. After performing a full body wash and receiving a massage, bathers finally retire to the cooling-room for a period of relaxation." By American standards, this would equate to an afternoon at the day spa!

The Grand Bazaar Market

Traveling to exotic places always require the purchase of souvenirs. Everyone loves to return home with items that remind them of the sights they've seen and fun they've had while on vacation or holiday. In Instanbul, the Grand Bazaar Market makes finding such items an adventure all to itself.

Under the ancient arches of the Beyazit Gate, over 4,000 shops can be found in this open-air marketplace that winds on for about one mile. What can you buy? Practically everything! Gold, silk, brass, copper, leather, rugs, baskets, carved wooden items, Turkish crafts, clothing, shoes, fruits, spices and prepared foods from sidewalk vendors. Be prepared to spend some time here and to pay with cash in the local currency: the lira.

A trip to Istanbul, Turkey is an exotic journey that shows you a vastly different way of life than most Westerners have seen. With intriguing sights and activities the entire family will enjoy, it's worth the effort to find a cruise itinerary that offers a stop in Istanbul.

Mechelen has one of the highest concentrations of monuments North of the Alps, and is unique in Flanders in being listed not once but four times on the UNESCO list of World Cultural Heritage sites.

But when the river flooded the entire city was under water. It is probably best known for its carillon school where students from all over the world come to learn to play church bells.

The shopping streets are all within walking distance of the Main Square. It is an attractive green city with little traffic, which makes this typical Flemish town perfect for shopping. The most popular shopping streets are Bruul and IJzerenleen.

The Grote Market the Market Square in the centre of Mechelen hosts a three-day Christmas market every December. There are carol concerts in the evening, while stalls sell special Christmas foods, records, books, clothes and antiques

The Horlogerie Museum Watch Museum is a fascinating private collection of over 1,000 antique timepieces, housed in an old 16th century town house. Making Grander Savings From New York Travel

The City New York does seem to be a very good idea at the beginning, but then most people are disappointed with it when they do not seem to be able to keep up with the conditions the pass requires. It is true that the pass is saving and all that jazz, but there are some things that need to be considered. When people end up disappointed with the NYC, it is mostly their on fault. The City pass clearly delineates the terms and conditions at the outset. Let us first see what those terms and conditions are, and then I will tell you of ways by which you can make the most of your city travel.

The first condition is that your pass gets activated only when you want to activate it. This is more of a privilege than a condition actually, but still it ties up with other things. Like, even if you bought the package last month and even got your pass in your hands, it will not be activated till you actually land up in New York and start using it. This helps if your tour gets delayed for some reason, you can still use the pass. So, when you go to your first New York destination and tell the attendant to swipe the pass, that's when the pass begins to function and your package goes live.

The second condition is that whatever time on a said date you begin using your pass, it will be counted as the whole day. So even if you enter your first tourist place near closing time, say about 4:30 pm, the whole day will be counted. In that way, you will have wasted your whole day. To make the best out of your pass, you need to start out early in the day. Wait at your first spot near opening time. That way, you will be able to visit the maximum number of places in that day and make the most of your pass.

Another very important condition is that the days are counted consecutively. So if you bought a three day package, and you first activated on Monday, then the three days for you would be Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. If for some reason you cannot visit anywhere on Tuesday, you will be missing that day, because your New York trip will get deactivated on Wednesday. You cannot throw in a Thursday visit. Hence, make sure you can free up next days for your travel. Since you can activate your pass whenever you want, this is simple.

Finally, one tip plan your itinerary wisely. Select places that are in a line and close to each other so that you won't waste much time traveling. Remember that the more places you visit, the more you stand to gain. Also look out for the New York Pass counters at every gate where you visit. Show the pass here, and you will be granted entry. You won't have to stand in queues. That means more value for travel.

The New York trip is just an instrument. How well you use it, and what kind of profit you make with it, depends on you.

5 Reasons to Choose South Africa as a Honeymoon or Vacation Destination

Are you looking for a honeymoon destination with a bit of a difference? If you like a bit of variety and prefer your vacations to be a combination of culture, chilling out and seeing wildlife then South Africa could be the destination for you.

My husband and I just recently returned from honeymoon in South Africa, we visited Cape Town, a game reserve on the Eastern Cape, the Garden Route and a few days of relaxation in the wine valley of Franschhoek.

Here are five reasons why you may want to consider South Africa for your honeymoon or vacation.

1. Amazing Wildlife - South Africa has absolutely amazing wildlife. You can see the big five - lions, elephants, buffalo, leopard and rhino, plus many other animals such as zebra, giraffe, impala, kudo and wildebeest, .You may have seen these animals in a zoo before, but this is nothing compared to seeing them wander around in their own natural habitat. South Africa has a huge choice of game reserves from the massive Kruger national park, to the smaller malaria free game reserves on the Eastern Cape. In addition to seeing all these animals on dry land, South Africa is one of the best places for spotting whales, dolphins, sharks and even penguins. Hermanus, a town on the garden route, is one of the top land based whale spotting locations on earth.

2. First Class Accommodation - you can find a wide range of accommodation all over South Africa suitable for any budget. If you are on your honeymoon and looking for something luxurious you will have no problem finding it. There are a lot of privately run luxurious guest houses in South Africa, with friendly owners who take pride in the service they give to their guests. The accommodation is also very decently priced and you will get more for your money than you would in most European accommodation.

3. Fabulous Food - Dining out in South Africa is memorable experience. If you love meat you will be spoilt for choice with excellent steaks or game meat such as kudo, springbok and ostrich. if you are a fish lover there is an abundance of fresh seafood to try and if you like fine dining then a visit to Franschhoek with its large share of the top ten restaurants in South Africa is a must.

4. Wine - If you'd like to try a Pinotage, a Sauvignon Blanc, or perhaps a Cap Classique style sparkling wine then be sure to pay a visit to one of South Africa's wine regions. Stellenbosch and Franschhoek are both fabulous places to spend a few days wine tasting and you will find a huge variety of vineyards with a large selection of wines to try. The scenery in this area is also beautiful and surrounded by mountains, rolling hills, vines and flowers .

5. Culture - South Africa has a colourful history and culture. There are a large number of museums to visit, including the famous Robben Island where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned and Cape Town's District Six museum, documenting the memories of the former residents of district six. The people in South Africa are also extremely friendly and will make you feel very welcome.

You can see lots of photos and read all about Suzanne's honeymoon in Cape Town, the Garden Route, the winelands and Eastern Cape Safari in her South Africa Honeymoon Blog.

Treasure Islands in Vietnam

On a flight from Ho Chi Minh City to manila, I looked out the window to find a beautiful view. The distant ocean was dotted with tiny green islands rimmed with white sand. Container ships cut through the blue water, heading southwest or northeast. The islands, I realized, belonged to the Truong Sa Archipelago, part of Vietnam's Khanh Hoa province. Abroad, they are known as the Spratley Islands.

Having been to the Truong Sa Islands, I found my bird's-eye-view especially fascinating. I first visited these remote islands in 1996, having boarded a navy ship in Cam Ranh Bay at 7pm and reached the islands at dawn.

The trip was unforgettable, For much of the journey the sea was calm, but within a space of 30 minutes a storm blew. our ship, weighing thousands of tons, was tossed like a dry leaf, its bow crashing into the wares and its propeller spinning in the air like that of an airplane. I felt as though hammers the size of houses were battering the ship. In that dangerous situation, where we feared for our lives, the sailors regaled us with stories of their journeys and adventures.

On another trip, while the map showed that our boat was near the islands, there was no sign of land. Some miles away we could see heavy rain falling. Informed by radio that it was raining in the Truong Sa Archipelago, we turned towards the rain and, sure enough, sighted land.

Among my fellow travelers was a troupe of performing artists, traveling to the islands to entertain the troops. All they had was a guitar, although the soldiers posted on the islands had promised to get a drum. True to their word, the soldiers cut the top off of an old oil drum and sounded as impressive as a "real" one. When the show was due to open there was no electricity. Using metal pipes, rags and gasoline, the soldiers made torches. The performance was excellent until everyone looked at each other and burst out laughing: the oily smoke had turned everyone's face pith black.

What I remember best in the sea, where I watched schools of flying fish streaming past like silver arrows. At night the sea round the Truong Sa Islands looked stunning. Shining a light on the water revealed squid. The fishing was excellent. It did not take us long to catch black cod or grouper as big as banana shoots.

As much as we loved the fishing, we didn't envy the fish. but at least two notable people ended up swimming like fish during our visit. The poet Duong Thuan was so intent on watching some squid that he fell overboard late at night, while the journalist Nguyen Nhu Phong disappeared into a hole in a coral reef. he was walking across the exposed reef carrying a camera bag for a colleague when he suddenly vanished. With a plop his plump from was submerged, leaving only the camera bag floating on the surface. When we pulled Phong up he was still clinging to the camera bag, desperate to keep the equipment from being damaged by the water.

Lying about 500 nautical miles from Vietnam's coast, the Truong Sa Islands are surprisingly green. On the main island, Great Truong Sa, maple trees offer shade. On Nam Yet Island the soldiers served us coconut milk and so Song Tu Tay Island we enjoyed cool nhau juice, which has therapeutic qualities.

Over the past decade, the island's soldiers have grown vegetables in wooden pots set on oil-covered poles to protect them from mice. Today, spinach, cabbage and other greens are spreading across the inlands.

I spent a morning touring Nam Yet, the most beautiful island in the Truong Sa. Incredibly tall coconut palms and green maples offered shade, while seabirds bustled around the water's edge. The receding tide revealed a white sandbar, the water as clear as glass and the silky sand unmarred by footsteps.

One day, I imagine that these islands will become a popular tourist destination. As a new airport is under construction on Great Truong Sa that day may be close. Watching the islands from above as I flew towards Manila I recalled my wonderful experiences in the Truong Sa Archipelago. Someday, I hope to be able to take a Vietnam Airlines flight back to those beautiful shores.

Lochaber Inverlochy Castle - 500 Years Older Than Previously Thought Posted By : Robb Lochaber

Many historians have incorrectly portrayed Inverlochy Castle has having been first built in the 13th Century by the Comyns (Cummings). The structure built by the Comyns of Badenoch is nothing more than a refinement of the castle originally constructed in the 8th Century for King Achaius.

Achaius is derived from the Latin Eochaidh. The name Eocho or Eochu was anglicised to Eochy, and further developed into Eochaid and Eochaidh. It is also said to be based upon the Greek Achaeans or Achaioi. It is this lineage from which Achaius' name was founded. Many Scots Gaelic names surround this line, including geographical landmarks and cities, all of whom are prefixed with the word Achna.

The Scottish meaning of Achaius is: horse friend, or friend of a horse. This is said to be a fitting name for King Achaius as his rule was enforced through the use of cavalry, his family reign brought on through the use of armed riders, and their great fondness of horses as witnessed by extensive stables.

King Achaius was the Pictish King of Scots, ruling from 797 through to 819. Although he had several fortified strongholds and castles throughout the Highlands of Scotland, his primary residence was at what is shall be referred to as Early Inverlochy Castle. There is little information regarding the exact date of the construction or demise of this fortress, but many scholars do accept the facts of his rule and the its whereabouts, noting the destruction by Danish invaders.

Inverlochy has strategic significance, as it was accessible by sea, via Loch Linnhe and the River Lochy. The site of Early Inverlochy Castle was ideal, as it was bordered along one side by a river, and the remaining sides by a moat. The moat has since filled with silt and then dirt, but its placement is obvious when viewing the site.

Roads leading away from Inverlochy Castle carried visitors, troops, and residents in one direction to a smallish settlement, later to be founded as Fort William, and in the opposite direction, towards present day Inverness.

King Achaius is most widely known for his alliance with Charlemagne. Scotland, under Achaius, and France, Germany, Italy, under Charlemagne, were under constant siege from the Saxons. Word of Achaius ability to repel, and defeat, the invaders spread across Europe. Because of this notoriety, Charlemagne visited Achaius, and proposed a treaty.

The treaty, signed in Achaius' second year of rule, was an agreement stating that should either ruler be attacked by England, the other would come to his aid.

As a showing of solidarity between Scotland and France, King Achaius took for his standard a yellow background featuring the Red Lion Rampant in the fore. Rampant means the lion is standing upright, on its back legs. Two circles of fleurs-de-lis, the French emblem, surround the red lion. This combination of Scottish and French symbols represented the alliance between Charlemagne and Achaius.

Charlemagne was so impressed with Achaius that he offered the hand of his daughter in marriage, thus sealing the deal. The two went on to marry, have three sons and one daughter.

Charlemagne, further enamoured by Achaius and his troops, went on to employ Scottish bodyguards. It was about this time that King Achaius established the Most Noble Order of the Thistle. Achaius appointed 12 others to join him in The Order, making the total of Knights 13. This number was selected to be symbolic of Christ and his 12 apostles. For several hundred years afterward, there were never more than 13 Knights. King George IV changed this law, thus allowing more than 13 Knights in The Order.

Early Inverlochy Castle continued for many decades after the rule of King Achaius, before its destruction by Danish invasion somewhere between the 10th and 11th Century. It was later rebuilt in the early 13th Century by Comyns of Badenoch, and named Inverlochy Castle.

In 1836 Lord Abinger built a new Victorian chalet and named it Inverlochy Castle, a few miles from the ruins of the 'true' Inverlochy Castle, in Torlundy. Lord Abinger's decision to name his new home, which is a present day hotel, Inverlochy Castle has sparked a naming controversy. There is now Early Inverlochy Castle, home to King Achaius, Old Inverlochy Castle, built by the Comyns, and Inverlochy Castle, the hotel built by Lord Abinger.

Regardless of its name, the ruins of Old Inverlochy Castle are just a few minutes from Fort William, in the Lochaber Region of the Scottish Highlands, and definitely worth a day trip to enjoy.
